I.  PURPOSE
 
Establishes procedures in the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH) for expired medications to be returned to the County contracted reverse distributor for credits.
 
II.  DEFINITIONS
 
Reverse Distributor: A vendor authorized to collect outdated pharmaceuticals on behalf of a pharmacy location and work with the pharmaceutical manufacturer for complete or partial credit.
 
Wholesaler: A vendor authorized to distribute pharmaceuticals to Los Angeles County pharmacies.

 
III.  POLICY
 
DMH directly operated clinics shall transport unwanted, unused, or expired clinic stock medications to DMH Pharmacy Services.
 
Collection receptacles shall remain in the secured DMH medication warehouse at all times.
