I.  PURPOSE
 
All prescribers at Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH/Department) directly operated clinics shall comply with the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) drug safety program established by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
 
II.  DEFINITIONS
 
Clinic: Any DMH directly operated facility.

Prescribers: All physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical pharmacists, physician residents, and pharmacy residents.

 
III.  POLICY
 
All DMH prescribers shall register with the REMS program, if applicable, and follow all requirements of each REMS program for the following medications at all times:
  • Clozapine
  • Naltrexone
  • Olanzapine kit for injection
  • Esketamine
  • Buprenorphine extended-release
  • Buprenorphine and Buprenorphine/Naloxone
