I.  PURPOSE
 
To provide guidelines regarding the Los Angeles County-Department of Mental Health (DMH) policy on nepotism.
 
II.  DEFINITIONS
 
Nepotism: A situation wherein there is a potential for the use of one's position for personal or economic gain for an employee or a close relative.

Close Relative: Mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother, sister, husband, wife, child, or stepchild.

 
III.  POLICY
 
To ensure effective supervision, internal discipline, security, safety, and positive morale in the workplace.

To avoid the perception of favoritism, discrimination, appearance of impropriety, and conflicts of interest and loyalty.
