I.  PURPOSE
 
To ensure Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (DMH/Department) is in compliance with the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors Policy 9.040, Investigations of Possible Criminal Activity within County Government. 
 
II.  DEFINITION
 
Criminal Activity: A breach of a rule or law for which a punishment may ultimately be prescribed by a governing authority.
 
III.  POLICY
 
Suspected criminal activity shall be reported to the Los Angeles County Auditor-Controller’s Office of County Investigations (OCI).

The Department will not conduct any internal investigation when it is suspected that a County employee or an agency contracting with the County has committed a criminal activity until such time as OCI has been contacted.
