I.  PURPOSE
 
To govern educational leave with the objective of benefiting the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) by enabling employees to improve their professional skill and competency.
 
II.  DEFINITION
 
Educational Leave: Leave for the purpose of obtaining a degree or certification from, or otherwise completing a specified program in an accredited college, university, or institute.
 
III.  POLICY
 
The LACDMH may grant an educational leave of absence without pay not to exceed twelve (12) months, to any permanent employee who has at least three (3) years of continuous service with the County, provided the employee completes a Request for Leave of Absence Form that is approved by his/her Deputy Director.
