  Policy 352.03 Naloxone (NARCAN) Distribution Program
 
  PROCEDURES
  1. Inventory
    1. The acquisition, storing, distribution, and accounting of the intranasal naloxone kit shall follow the process detailed below:
      1. Only clinic staff who have completed training shall acquire intranasal naloxone from DMH pharmacy headquarters located at 510 S. Vermont Ave, 21st floor, Pharmacy Warehouse, Los Angeles, CA 90020.
      2. Intranasal naloxone shall either be picked up by authorized staff or delivered to clinic by DMH pharmacy staff. Each box contains the following:
        1. Two (2) single-dose intranasal spray devices containing 4 mg of naloxone hydrochloride in 0.1 ml (both doses are considered as one unit).
        2. Administration instructions.
      3. Authorized personnel shall document inventory as described in the policy in the Naloxone (NARCAN) Distribution Program Log.
  2. Storage
    1. Intranasal naloxone shall be stored in a designated cabinet located behind the clinic front desk staff.
  3. Distribution
    1. Authorized Personnel shall distribute one to two (1-2) boxes of intranasal naloxone for client use upon client request. If client requests more than 2 boxes, Authorized Personnel shall distribute the requested quantity with documentation of client’s reason for requesting more than 2 boxes in Naloxone (NARCAN) Distribution Program Log.  Limit 5 boxes (10 intranasal naloxone devices) per day.
  4. Documentation
    1. Inventory Documentation - shall be documented as described above in the Naloxone (NARCAN) Distribution Program Log.
    2. Intranasal Naloxone Successful Reversal History – shall be documented in the Naloxone (NARCAN) Distribution Program Log after each distribution as described in the policy.
