This regulation contains the basic requirements for all commercial signs to be located on Lincoln Public Schools property.  This regulation does not regulate or control any signs of or for Lincoln Public Schools.  In addition, all commercial signage is also subject to all other applicable bulletins or policies and regulations including, but not limited to, Board Policy 1112 on Advertising and its accompanying regulations.

  1. Applicability.  This regulation shall apply to any new sign proposed to be constructed, erected or installed on or after the effective date of this regulation and any existing sign proposed to be modified or replaced on or after the effective date of this regulation.
  2. Allowable Sign Types.  Only Wall Signs, Ground Signs and Freestanding Signs, as defined by the Lincoln Municipal Code, will be allowed on Lincoln Public Schools property.  No Roof Signs, Projecting Signs, Marquee Signs or Mobile Signs will be allowed.
  3. Physical Characteristics.  The physical characteristics of proposed signs, including design, installation and location, will be guided by principles contained in the Lincoln Municipal Code Chapter 27.69 Signs, as may be amended from time to time.
  4. Sign Applications.  Applications for placement of signs on Lincoln Public Schools property shall be submitted to the Director of Operations, on forms that may be developed by Lincoln Public Schools.  Applications shall contain sufficient details of the proposed sign, including type, size, materials, electricity requirements, if any, location, and other details known to the applicant.
  5. Review Procedure.  The Director of Operations will review applications and may seek additional information from the applicant.  The Director of Operations, in his or her sole discretion, may recommend an application for approval, may reject an application, or may return an application to the applicant for further revisions and modification.
  6. Approval Procedure.  Applications recommended for approval by the Director of Operations shall be forwarded to the Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs.  The Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs will review forwarded applications and may seek additional information from the applicant or the Director of Operations.  The Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs, in his or her sole discretion, may approve an application, may reject an application or may return an application to the Director of Operations for further review and possible resubmittal.  The decision of the Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs shall be final.
  7. Reconsideration Procedure.  If an application is rejected by the Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs, an applicant may, within seven (7) days of receiving written notice of the rejection, request reconsideration of the decision.  The applicant shall give written notice to the Director of Operations, along with a copy of the rejection notice, requesting reconsideration.  The Director of Operations shall submit the application to the Planning Committee for its consideration.  The Planning Committee, in its sole discretion, may uphold, modify or reverse the decision of the Associate Superintendent for Business Affairs.
